L’Armée des ombres
The restoration of L’Armée des ombres, my latest work, is a bit like my last film ! The film was made in the winter of 1968-1969 and since the 1970s, it has only been shown on television and not on a real screen, in good condition.
Working with Jean-Pierre Melville was very trying experience almost every day, but it was an enriching experience and I now feel I have become a real director of photography. Taking part in the restoration of a film that is 35 years old was a really exciting project. To end up with a brand new film negative and a positive print fresh from the hands of my technician friends at Eclair gave me a real kick !
Re-discovering Jean-Pierre Melville’s powerful and refined cinematography was very moving for us as film-lovers !

Filmed using Kodak film and processed by LTC in winter 1968-1969. Restored in winter 2004-2005 using Lustre and Kodak film.
