Two Pictures a Day in Amman
Second week
Gilles Porte , AFC, and
Samuel Lahu , his Assistant Cameraman, are currently shooting in Jordan. They have agreed to send us two images extracted from the daily photographic journal they are keeping during the shooting of the film
3000 Nights , directed by
Mai Masri . Have a look at their second week of work.
Petra
My view while skipping over the rocks with Samuel… I’ve seen Petra, and I’m still not ready to die ! (Gilles, June Sunday 8)
Petra, tourism with Indiana Porte
(Samuel, June Sunday 8)
Facing the sunset
I’ve suggested to Sam that we travel towards the South… I’ve heard that you can’t die before having seen Petra… It is 5 PM... I’ve just realized that the last few kilometres of road separating us from the lost city are headed due west… (Gilles, June Saturday 7)
Amman, Dar El Funfun
Display of art : it’s hard to get a flying carpet to take off… That’s my interpretation, in any case. (Samuel, June Saturday 7)
"Five O’Clock in Haiti" T-shirt
Sam is running all over Amman to take HIS photo... I know he’ll choose just the right moment to take it... I’m waiting for the sun to set in order to take off my T-shirt and use the empty cans of (Jordanian) beer that Sam has left on the balcony to create this precarious construction project… (Gilles, June Friday 6)
Amman
A new Assistant Director is supposed to come from France to help out, but his passport is expired, inch’ Allah, he’ll get it sorted out. (Samuel, June Friday 6)
Dressing-table props
I pore over the film’s sets, alone... In one of the cells, certain details that have been orchestrated by Hussein, the movie’s set designer (who has gone home to Beirut) are imparting a strange feeling. (Gilles, June Thursday 5)
Amman
Ballet of shadows right below our flat. I constantly forget we are here to shoot a film. (Samuel, June Thursday 5)
Fatma, black paper and white pencil
The town of Zaatari, 12km away from the Syrian border, is currently home to the 2
d largest refugee camp in the world… It is thanks to Gaëlle and Stéphanie, the founders of the NGO known as “
Dar Al Yasmin ”, that this image was created from black paper, white pencils, and my camera… This is Fatma, Syrian refugee, 5 years old...
(Gilles, June Wednesday 4)
The Village of Zaatari
Repérage pour " Portrait, autoportraits ", dans un campement de réfugiés syriens. (Samuel, mercredi 4 juin) [en]Scouting for “Portraits, self-portraits”, in a Syrian refugee camp. (Samuel, June Wednesday 4)
Yawning cat
A cat’s been following me around… It’s as though he noticed that I’m a bit lost myself… I pause… We look at one another… He yawns… It makes me think of Saint Exupéry and his fox… (Gilles, June Tuesday 3)
The Souk of Amman
A little urban detour whilst awaiting some news from the producers. (Samuel, June Tuesday 3)
